John Dorlon's Company of the Second Regiment of New York Minute Men documenting the defending of New York City & Long Island in advance of the British invasion, February 19-April 11, 1776. Contains regiments order and general orders for all the troops in New York as Americans prepared to defend the city. The orders relate to work details, record keeping (including the keeping of orderly books), artillery, weaponry, courts-martial, drills, prisoners, codes of conduct, etc. The text mentions employing the services of black civilians, slave and free, to assist in the construction of defensive earthworks.
