Spine title: Artillerie pratique. Original watercolor drawings for plates intended for later publication with text volume. Probably created after 1748, when Espiard de Colonge became captaine--See Dictionnaire de biographie française, t. 12 for further details of his career. Full calf binding with gold tooled spine; red leather title label, lettered in gold. Baron d'Espiard de Colonge was field marshal and director of the Guyenne Artillery. His treatise, published by his grand-nephew in 1846, 60 years after his death, was considered an important reference on French artillery under Louis XIV and Louis XV. [see 358.1 E77, 1846] Text volume lacking; whereabouts unknown. Includes 54 manuscript pages of technical descriptions. 33 of the plates are double. Figures of plates 1, 2, 3, 38, 63, and 68 are lacking, as are a few figures of plates 43 and 44.
