Full bust, to right, in uniform. Order of the Cincinnati on left lapel of coat. Oval, in a rectangle, with border line, 1/16.
Originally struck and published by Savage in 1792 with a longer title recognizing the original picture painted in 1790 for the Philosophical Chamber at the University of Cambridge in Massachusetts. The plate was reworked just after the General's death with slight changes in the hair and collar and the title and address were erased and "General George Washington" substituted. This version is the frontispiece for a pamphlet titled "Washington's monuments of patriotism", Francis & Robert Bailey, Philadelphia, 1800.
