The patriot performance in the Battle of Bunker Hill, which was actually fought on Breed's Hill, rallied the Colonies, spurred the Continental Congress into action, and banished any real hope of reconciliation. The ships in the foreground supporting the landing are the Falcon, The Lively, the Somerset, and the Glasgow. A British battery on Copp's Hill in Boston is firing rockets into Charlestown. The engraving has a decorative black and white border with the title at the bottom and reads at the top: "Engraved for Barnard's New Complete and Authentic History of England." This engraving appears on p. 687 of the 1783 edition. This engraving was part of the exhibit, Massachusetts in the American Revolution "Let it begin here." on display at Anderson House, October 23, 1997 - May 2, 1998. Furthermore, it appeared, in color, on the cover of the catalogue.
