Note
No. 1, A.L.S. to his unnamed granddaughters, Marion and Eleanor Abbot, describing events, climate, plants and other surroundings near Panama, where he was a consulting engineer. Letter continues on 13 Oct "at sea near Cuba", reporting a call on President Amador in the Government House at Panama and completed 15 Oct, also at sea, "getting good views of Haiti, Cuba and San Salvador where Columbus first landed."
No. 2, typed letter to "Julie" from Cambridge, Nov. 21, 1915, signed Papa & Grandpapa, sends news of his appointment to the Committee of engineers and geologists to report "upon the possibility of controlling the slides which are seriously interfering with the use of the Panama Canal." Also mentions his grandaughters' gift of an electric light that is "much better than a candle."
No. 3, on letterhead of Hotel Tivoli, Anoon, Canal Zone, Dec. 24, 1915, to Fred [Abbot, his son], reports intent to sail on Jan. 2 to New Orleans and to proceed at once to New York. Also mentions satisfaction of seeing large ships clear the channel [i.e. Panama Canal?]. Signed "Father"
