"Our family has suffered great diminution. We have only three children out of 13 - Lucy and Henry, and the one born at Bush HIll in 1791. My wifes happiness is impaired while she continues on this globe. But time works wonders"
Requests information about the "nature of ground rents as in use in Philadelphia, and the rules which govern in cases of lapse of payment or transfer of the property, wheter a lease is given for a particular period or forever."
Alludes to the threat of war with France: "We shall repair [to Maine] shortly, unless the dogs of War should be let slip, to make havoc in our Country"
