"I have with a great deal of dif[f]iculty persuaded Col. [Gurdon?] Saltenstal and others to postpone coming to Marblehead untill tomorrow morning. I sincerely hope there is an accommodation by this time; if not, the matter will be too serious to make a joke off [sic]. Pray White do all you can to save blood and slaughter but above all save your good self from harm, whose safety I am as anxious for as my own and as equally wish the peace and quiet of the towne."
Apparently relates to the consequences of the Boston Port Bill, one of the " Intolerable Acts," which designated Marblehead as port of entry in place of Boston.
