Note
Bust, profile, to the right. Circular medallion, with border, 2/16, containing thirteen stars, upon a base, inscribed "Born Feb 22 AD 1732, Died Dec 14,,1799." A figure of Liberty, on the right, holding a scroll, inscribed "He lived for his country." On left, a shield, with arms of United States and, in rear, the entrance to Washington's tomb. In background, a view of Mount Vernon. Around the outside of the engraving across the top are the names of the artist and engraver and below the copyright.
One copy is in a wooden frame covered with a plastic crystal. Stamped on the back, into the wood it reads: "Warranted from Mount Vernon. J. Crutchett" Printed on paper glued to the back it reads: "Washington D. C. 14th Nov. 1859. I hereby certify that the picture frame stamped 'From Mount Vernon, J. Crutchett' to which this is attached was manufactured at the Mount Vernon Factory from wood grown at Mount Vernon, the home and last resting place of the immortal George Washington, in agreement with the accompanying printed certificates of John A. Washington Esq., proprietor of Mount Vernon and his Honor, the Mayor of Washington City, dated Nov. 12th 1856. This beautiful gem gives an artistic likeness of General Washington together with a vision of the mansion of Mount Vernon & Tomb of Washington. J Crutchett." At the bottom it reads "This Beautiful Gem, framed in Mount Vernon wood, can only be had wholesale and retail at Horace Barnes & Co, 123 Washington Street, Boston, or their agents throughout the United States."
A second copy is mounted in a round metal frame. The frame has been taped to a piece of orange construction paper and matted. This matting has been removed and is the case file. The second copy is located on the custom box shelf.
