Profile, head to the right. Framed oval painting. Photograph has a shadow which cuts off the right margin of the frame.
Silver gelatin photograph of a framed, oval Sharples-like painting. It is difficult to identify the actual artist. This portrait strongly resembles the one.by James Sharples, however the Sharples portrait has the head in profile to the left. On the other hand, this may be a photograph of a portrait, similar to the Sharples, painted by Cephas Thompson. Finally, there is a possibility that the negative was reversed when this photograph was printed, and that the actual painting had the head in profile to the left, which would then suggest that this is a photograph of the Sharples painting
