Full-figure, stylized portrait with ships bombarding a fort in the background, commemorates no specific place or incident. The awkward fitting of the head to the body suggests that its is a composite picture of head, body and background. "p.319" appears above the etching in the upper right hand corner. This etching is a page from An impartial history of the war in America, Vol. I, page 319. An American artist, J. Norman, placed the head of Major General Joseph Warren on the same body with the same background in 1781 for the Boston edition of An impartial history of the war in America.
