Local merchants and sea captains attack and burn the grounded British revenue schooner H.M.S. Gaspee in the waters of Narragansett Bay in resentment over British interference in the shipping trade. A British Commission of Inquiry was unable to ever bring anyone to trial. This engraving was displayed at Anderson House in an exhibition titled, Rhode Island in the American Revolution, from October 17, 2000 through April 14, 2001.
