Scene of the naval battle in the Louisbourgh Harbor during which the Prudent is burned and the Benfaisant is escorted by the British our of the harbor. The action took place on July 26th, 1758 during which some fifty small boats from the British fleet commanded by Admiral Boscawen made a night attack on French vessels. Various engraved images of this battle have been published. Possibly the present work is the original grisaille done for Canot (engraver) to work from.
