William Linn, S.T.D.", [1888?]; c. 4 (L92.1.107): part of 11 pamphlets bound as a volume by Richard Varick (call no.: 973.4 V299pam 1794); c. 5 (L2013F9): purchased as part of a lot that included Linn’s original Society of the Cincinnati Eagle (honorary member of NY Society); ms. notes tipped in on front free endpaper: author presented this copy to his second wife Catherine Moore before their marriage with extracts of his sermon preached in the North Church, Nov. 1786; bookplate: Dean Sage (grandson of William Linn); tipped in on back pastedown: a newspaper article, published at the time of the centennial of Washington’s death about the sermons and obituaries of Washington and citing Linn’s eulogy & a letter of Alexander Hamilton, Jr. to Dean Sage, June 1, 1875, concerning the question of William Linn’s membership and Dean Sage’s eligibility. He seems to have overlooked to fact that Linn was an honorary member, writing: "It seems strange however that your grandfather should have had both the Diploma and badge without having been in all respects a member. The pamphlets include orations on the deaths of George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, George Clinton & DeWitt Clinton, and other patriotic topics; child drawing of a battle scene on title verso probably by a young Hamilton Fish?
